Blue Plaques

Visiting 957 English Heritage and 142 Corporation of London Blue Plaques

Blue Plaque locations and visits

According to English Heritage there are 957 Blue Plaques in Greater Loondon and according to
The Corporation of London there are 142 in The City of London.
There are also relatively few non-blue plaques but these aren’t in scope.

The challenge is to visit all the Blue Plaques on foot.
To do this involves using the closest rail/tube station to the first Blue Plaque followed by walking to other Blue Plaques and ending at the closest rail/tube station to the last Blue Plaque.

I got the details of the Blue Plaques from English Heritage and The Corporation of London, plotted these on a Google Map and used that to design walking routes using PlotaRoute and geoapify’s route planner API.

All of the plaque addresses had to be geocoded to be able to plot them on a map and use them for route planning. In general the geocodes need to be as accurate as possible to avoid spending time at approximate locations looking for plaques. I also used Google Streetview to confirm the locations of the plaques.

In a few cases plaques are either fully obscured (usually by construction work) or partially obscured. Details of such plaques can be viewed here.

The walking routes that have been planned and completed can be viewed from the Blue Plaque walks page.

The Google Map below shows all of the Blue Plaques.

Green markers are Blue Plaques already visited
Blue markers are Blue Plaques still to be visited
The grey areas are zones I’ve created to group together nearby plaques.
1 or more walks are designed to visit the plaques in zones depending on the distances between plaques.

As at 7 June 2026, 197 Blue Plaques have been visited with 902 remaining.
